I was taken aback by Mark Dudenhefer's caustic reply ["Mr. Del Toro, please
don't politicize power lines," Aug. 16] to candidate Carlos Del Toro's
letter to the editor on power lines in Stafford. I'll concede Mr.
Dudenhefer's point that the power lines should not be a political issue.
But, sir, it is a moral one.
It deeply concerns me, as it should your editorial-page readers, that Del.
Mark Cole continues to accept annual campaign donations from Dominion
Virginia Power, while sponsoring legislation--expressly benefiting this
enormously profitable company--that would force Stafford residents to foot
the bill for the burial of their new power lines.
If enacted, Mr. Cole's bill will mean that my Stafford neighbors and I will
have to pay huge surcharges to our monthly bills, to cover the cost of
building Dominion's new lines.
That's corporate welfare. It is immoral. And we need a stronger and more
effective voice representing us in Richmond.
Cmdr. Del Toro has a better plan on the power lines: If Dominion wants to
build them, then it--and it alone--should bear the entire cost.
Just one of the many reasons why, come Election Day, I'll be casting my vote
for Mr. Del Toro.
