former Presidential Yacht Sequioa event a big success

July 2, 2007

More than 40 people spent the evening of June 28 on board the USS Sequoia, the former Presidential Yacht, in support of Commander Del Toro’s campaign for the Virginia House of Delegates.

After a brief history lesson about the Yacht from host Gary Silversmith, attendees soaked in the powerful history of the yacht as it sailed down the Potomac River. More supportive words came from House Democratic Caucus Chairman Brian Moran, a fervent supporter of Commander Del Toro, who called Del Toro’s victory, “necessary for moving the great Commonwealth of Virginia forward.”

Del Toro then spoke of the need to help Governor Tim Kaine with his agenda and the importance of electing representatives with the “courage and conviction to get important things done for their community,” something Del Toro stressed, “has been missing from the 88th District.”

In an unexpected show of support, Del Toro’s Finance Committee Chair, Mary Ann Hovis, then presented the campaign with a $1,000 contribution from U.S. Senator Jim Webb. Senator Webb, like so many others, believes Del Toro has the right experience, moral values and conviction to create positive change in Virginia.
