Commander Carlos Del Toro (ret.), candidate for the House of Delegates, 88th district, blasted incumbent Mark Cole for voting against vital local funding to improve transportation and reduce traffic.
“Delegate Cole stood practically alone in opposing the bi-partisan transportation funding package this year, and today we see that over $50 million in local road improvements would have been lost if it were up to him,” Del Toro said. “He opposed even a majority of members of his own party, including the Speaker as well as leaders from both parties.”
Only 15 members out of the 100-member House of Delegates opposed the bi-partisan effort. Yesterday, the Commonwealth Transportation Board announced the newest projects to receive funding under the recent transportation deal.
“Two years ago, Delegate Cole was the only person, Democrat or Republican, to vote against the 2005 budget, and now he’s back at it,” Del Toro said. “Mark Cole is a nice man, but he’s not been an effective Delegate, he won’t work together with people to get things done, and today we see just how much of an obstacle to progress he really is.”
